Krununny takes you to Khamchanot! Inviting blessings from our ancestors and the sacred Naga at "Khamchanot"
there is probably no one who hasn't heard of it. Located in Ban Dung District, Udon Thani Province, if you've had the opportunity to visit and seek blessings at Khamchanot, you must not miss paying respects to "Pu Si Sutho" and "Ya Si Pathumma," the guardians who have protected the Khamchanot forest for a long time. Today, let's explore how to worship Pu Si Sutho and what they prefer.
History of Pu Si Sutho: According to the legends told by Luang Pu Kamphan, the abbot of Wat That Mahachai in Nakhon Phanom Province, Pu Si Sutho Nakhara Chat or Nakha Thipbodi Sutho is the king of the Nakhara realm. They were known for their knowledge, diligent practice, and adherence to Buddhist principles. They possessed gentle and compassionate qualities, avoiding conflicts and favoring the practice of meditation at Phra That Phanom.
What Pu Si Sutho and Ya Pthumma like:
- Bai Sip Thep or Bai Si Phayanaak is the preferred offering, but they do not favor Bai Si Pak Cham (a type of betel leaf).
- Performing rituals at Khamchanot.
- Offering large celestial flower garlands.
- Offering 9 auspicious fruits, with young coconuts being essential (they do not prefer savory food such as pork, duck, or chicken).
- Offering plain water (they dislike offering red water).
Khamchanot highlights three main sacred spots for requesting blessings and walking the sacred path:
Starting from "San Pho Pu Si Sutho and Ya Si Pathumma," the presiding deities and highest sacred objects of Khamchanot, believed to be the rulers of this land. Next is the "Mae Dua Yak" tree, a large tree estimated to be hundreds of years old, believed to be the treasure of Pu Si Sutho and Ya Pthumma. Finally, it concludes at the "Sakdhi Sitthi" or "Khamchanot Pond," believed to be the entrance and exit between the realm of spirits and the human world of the Naga community.
At Khamchanot, various auspicious blessings can be requested, especially for luck and lucky numbers, which many hopeful individuals have won lotteries. However, the local residents advise against requesting matters related to love and relationships, as it may not yield the desired results.
For those who enjoy taking chances, after paying respects and seeking blessings from Pu Si Sutho and Ya Si Pathumma, it is recommended to take a look at the sacred water basin near the "Jum Khamchanot" monument. It is believed that by performing a ritual of observing lucky numbers in the sacred water, some people have seen the numbers 6-7-1-4-9. However, each person may see different numbers. It depends on whose eyes perceive which particular numbers.
